Ocho Rios – mid-way along the north coast of Jamaica – is the most developed resort in Jamaica and its major port for cruise ships. Once a fashionable retreat for the rich and famous, it has evolved in recent decades to serve a much broader market and condenses everything you could hope to see in Jamaica. First, take the gorgeous beaches and turquoise waters, with offshore reefs and sunken wrecks providing metaphorical raptures of the deep for snorkelers and divers. There's no shortage of water sports, from para-sailing to evening sunset sailing cruises. Natural attractions are highlighted by Dunn's River Falls – a spectacular series of cascades. Join the daisy chain to clamber up, pool by pool, then let the kids swim with dolphins at Dolphin Cove. When you're tired of cocktails and sunning, thrill to a zipline adventure. Go horse-back riding at Chukka Cove. There are half a dozen botanical gardens and plantations to explore within a 30-minute drive of "Ochi." And whitewater rafting was recently introduced. Inland, mountains tempt you on scenic drives to visit Bob Marley's birthplace. You can party hearty in Ochi, where the nightclubs and fine dining restaurants are legendary.
