An hour-and-a-half’s drive north from Montréal, Mont-Tremblant is the highest mountain in Québec’s Laurentians, soaring above a delicate necklace of forests and lakes. It was originally “discovered” in 1936 by a well-heeled American businessman, Joe Ryan, who decided to make it the East’s biggest ski resort. Now regularly considered the number one ski resort in North America East by Ski Magazine, this four-season adventure playground encompasses two mountains, three villages, the breathtaking natural beauty of Mont-Tremblant National Park, four exceptionally good golf courses and numerous festivals and sporting events. Summertime activities include all kinds of water sports, off-trail adventuring, one of the country’s top blues festivals, and several kid-oriented attractions. At the mountain’s base, a colorful pedestrian village known as Tremblant features hotels, restaurants, boutiques, bars and condominiums – all inspired by the various French architectural styles of Québec City. Joe Ryan’s dream has surely been fulfilled.
